It is not too much to say that the motion parts of the machine are roughly divided into rotation, straight lines, and combinations of these. The rotary section has already been developed for rotation about 110 years ago, most of which has been "rolled down", leading to great technological innovation. The "rolling down" has made it possible to minimize friction resistance, to save power energy, and to improve performance. On the other hand, the "rolling" of the linear motion section was not realized despite the fact that there were ten times as many as Merritt in the rotational movement.

THK realized the rolling of the linear motion part of the machine which has been said to be difficult until now by the original technology, and it was first commercialized in the world as "linear motion guide LM guide" in 1972. The rolling motion of the linear motion section has dramatically improved mechanical performance such as high precision, speedup and labor saving of mechatronic equipment.

By installing the "LM guide" of THK, machine tools and industrial robots were able to perform ultraprecision work, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment realized the accuracy of submicron units. Recently, the use of the LM guide has spread to infinity as well as liquid crystal manufacturing lines, railway vehicles, welfare vehicles, medical equipment, skyscrapers, housing and amusement equipment.

THK manufactures and sells "straight motion system" which greatly improves the performance of industrial machinery. We also developed our own "base isolation system" to protect buildings from earthquakes. The seismic isolation system of THK has been adopted for many buildings and detached houses.
